Things to do

With Tenby’s pretty harbour (recently voted the best beach in Europe), Castle Beach and the walled-town centre on your doorstep, this is one of the best locations in town.  If you want to explore a little further afield, here are some of our own must-do recommendations.

Walking distance:

  • Boat trip to Caldey Island from Tenby Harbour
  • Mackerel fishing trip from Tenby Harbour, or try the Seal Safari, Island Cruises, or Jet Ski excursions
  • Crabbing from the sluice in Tenby Harbour
  • Breakfast, lunch or tea in Dennis Café on Castle Beach
  • Milky coffees and bacon butties at Claire’s on Harbour Beach and The Stowaway Coffee Co
  • Fab local seafood and real ales at the Hope & Anchor, or great family meals and a good night out at the Harbwr Tap & Kitchen
  • Supper at The Baytree, Umi Tenby or The Plantagenet, or a cool Mediterranean style pizza and carafe of wine at Top Joes
  • Lunch on the terrace at the Salty’s Beach Bar & Restaurant, with stunning views of Caldey
  • Amazing coffee at Caffe Vista with beautiful views across North Beach and the Harbour
  • Tenby Museum & art gallery on Castle Hill (what a location!)
  • RNLI lifeboat station & shop

Take the car:

Local beaches:

  • Take your pick from the North Beach, Harbour Beach, Castle Beach or South, all within walking distance
  • Drive to nearby Lydstep or Manorbier; or Barafundle, Bosherston Lily Ponds and Swan Lake (which will all take some simple finding and walking but are so worth it); Freshwater East and Freshwater West are also stunning and worth a visit.

Further north:

  • when we head to the north of the County we seek out Porthgain (a little quay with a great pub, and fish restaurant, and little galleries); Pwll Gwaelod (a tiny beach with a great seafood restaurant attached) which is past Fishguard and near Dinas; Druidstone Hotel (quirky hotel/restaurant, with good but expensive beach horse-riding nearby in Nolton Haven); the real Blue Lagoon with organised cliff jumping and coasteering available
  • St David’s – the smallest city – a bit like Caldey Island, in that it has its own god-like, special, blessed, ambience

Wet weather ideas:

  • Fecci’s Ice Cream Parlour;
  • Soft Play in Heatherton;
  • Soft play at Manor House Park;
  • Lots of indoor adventure play at Folly Farm;
  • Swimming at Tenby LC or HaverfoRdwest LC
  • Vue Cinema at Carmarthen

  • Look no further than Jago & Joules for fashion, Tenby Bookshop for books, gifts & stationery
  • The Little Pantry for great local produce and Braun’s Butchers in the market (the best butcher for miles) and at Four Seasons farm shop on the New Hedges road into Tenby and at their town shop just before Sainsbury’s.
